8 Signs You’re Addicted to House Hunting… Even After You’ve Snagged a New Home!

House hunting isn’t all fun and games, but it can definitely be addictive!

The process of finding and successfully buying a home can take months, and often has its fair share of stressful moments. But the thrill of the chase can be a hard habit for some buyers to kick, even after they’ve found the perfect place to call home!

Here are five telltale signs that you just can’t quit the hunt, even with a shiny new set of keys in your pocket:

1) You Can’t Resist Going to Open Houses

If you find yourself running errands, or just out for a Sunday drive and signs for an open house feel like they have a magnetic pull on your car, you may have a house hunting problem.

2) You’re Like a Human Zestimator (But Probably More Accurate!)

When you search for homes long enough, you can get pretty good at knowing when a listing is priced well, or if the seller is trying to set a Guinness record with their ambitious asking price.

But if you find yourself trying to guess how much random houses you drive by are worth, no matter what area you’re in, it might be a sign that you’ve got a lingering case of market analysitis.

3) You Can Sniff out New Listings Before They Hit the Market

Homeowners often prep their homes before putting them on the market. Some of the signs are kind of obvious, like power washing the exterior, sprucing up the walkway, or having a yard sale.

But when you can sense that an owner is thinking about listing their house based upon less obvious signs most other people would never notice, you’re probably still in the mental mode of an active buyer.

4) You Still Have New Listing Alerts Set Up

It’s not just that you haven’t turned the notifications off, or asked your agent to stop auto-sending you listings in your price range, it’s that you actually still look at them instead of just deleting them!

And, just to be safe, you spend time looking at listings online just to make sure you haven’t missed any somehow. If this hits home with you, it means you’re still addicted to looking for a home, even though you just bought one…

5) You Have an Active Text Convo With Your Agent About Houses

Buyers spend so much time with their agents during their home search and can become lifelong friends, so keeping in touch with your agent is totally normal!

But if your text thread still looks like an ongoing chat about which houses you love, which ones are a great deal, and which ones need too much updating for the price, then you’re still hooked on house hunting!

6) You’re Still Watching Home Buying Shows Even though you’ve found your dream home, you can’t help but binge-watch home buying shows on TV. You find yourself critiquing the choices buyers make, imagining what you would do differently, and getting ideas for your next potential home.

7) You’re Constantly Scanning Real Estate Ads You still pick up real estate magazines, browse the housing section of newspapers, and click on real estate ads that pop up online. You’re always curious about the latest listings and how they compare to your new home.

8) You Keep Visiting Real Estate Websites Despite having found your home, you frequently visit real estate websites to see what’s new on the market. Whether it’s Zillow, Redfin, or local real estate sites, you’re always on the lookout for the next great deal, even if you’re not planning to move.
